In the one day since Britney Spears and Demi Lovato officially announced they were joining “X-Factor,” the thing we’re all thinking is…can they handle it?

It’s no surprise that both Britney and Demi had very public meltdowns. They are both former child stars who publicly hit rock bottom, went to rehab, and are now trying to regain their star status all while staying in the public eye.

Psychiatrist Dr. Judith Orloff M.D., author of “Emotional Freedom” and therapist-to-the-stars tells us that both women will need a lot of work in order to, how do I put this gently, stay sane on the reality series.

“Demi and Britney will both need a lot of support while on the show, hopefully both will continue to see private therapists while working on the ‘X-Factor,’” Orloff tells Hollyscoop.

Demi is only a year out of rehab and most of her issues stemmed from feeling the pressure to conform to a very specific standard of beauty set by Hollywood.

“The issue [Demi] might have is being compared to Britney, that could cause her to judge herself and think less of herself by looking at Britney and thinking that she doesn’t measure up,” says Orloff, “The fact that she was given one million and Britney was given 15 million plus the attention Britney is getting versus her? It’s almost like they are setting her up to feel bad for herself.”

Orloff thinks Demi will have a harder time than Britney and fears “if Demi is ready to be back in the spotlight so soon after her breakdown?”

“She does seem a little flat from the medication but she is a pro,” Orloff says of Britney, “this is what she is an expert at and while she may have her handlers supporting her with the press – it should not effect her ability to judge the contestants.”
